Domestic Violence is the use of physical force or threatening behavior by one member of a household towards another.
Examples Include
Physical Abuse: hitting kicking, burning and shoving
Emotional Abuse: constant criticism, and insults, forced isolation from family and friends, threats against the victim and their loved ones
Economic Abuse: NOt allowing the victim to work or study, not allowing the victim to have or have acces to finances
Sexual Abuse: rape, forcing the victim to perform unwanted sexual activities
Warning Signs of a Batterer
Excessive jealousy and/or possessiveness
Unrealistic expectations of self and others
Anger is a typical response when limits or boundaries are set
Constant contact or spying
Sudden mood swings
Threats of violence or self abuse
Cruelty to the elderly, animals, or children
Continuous humiliations or belittling
Blames other for actions or problems
Possible alcohol or drug abuse and perhaps pressure the victim to participate

Call The Police
Be prepared to leave. Gather documents like ID, passport, Social Security, Birth Certificate, bank information, immigration documents, list of important numbers
Contact shelters if there isn’t any friends or family available
Make copies of your house and car keys
Pack clothing and medication and leave them in a safe place
